Key takeaway
Evaluate XDR by evidence from your sources, useful incident context and agreed response authority, then compare integrations against that result.
Map sources and incident coverage
XDR can correlate signals from endpoints, identity, email, network, cloud and other connected products in one investigation. An integration listing does not mean every event, history field or response action from that source is available. List required sources and a representative scenario before evaluation.
| Check | What it should prove |
|---|---|
| Source connection | Which products, accounts and logs are connected, and how data is refreshed and retained. |
| Correlation | Which detections and evidence are grouped into an incident, and how analysts reach the source records. |
| Response action | Which connected product performs the action, who approves it and how the result is recorded. |
Named XDR examples
Compare these products as examples of different XDR workflows, not as a ranking. Confirm integrations, licensing and response scope during the pilot.
Cisco XDR
Cisco XDR groups related detections into incidents and prioritizes them by risk. Analysts can inspect incident details, indicators of suspicious activity and response playbooks. Check the available data, actions and license requirements for the Cisco and third-party products you use.
Palo Alto Cortex XDR
Cortex XDR Pro lets analysts query collected data and follow process execution chains in Causality view to investigate how suspicious activity began. During the pilot, check which investigation features and response actions are available for your chosen data sources, agents, license and permissions.
Run a pilot against a concrete scenario
Connect the sources your team will use daily and test the workflow end to end. Before starting, agree on success criteria: which signals should appear, which events the analyst should be able to connect and which response action must have a recorded result.
Choose required sources
List the specific endpoint, identity, email, network and cloud products and data types, along with history and retention requirements.
Trace an incident
Generate several signals from a test attack scenario. Check how they are grouped, which source records are available and how the analyst preserves evidence.
Check response and operation
Check which product performs isolation or another action and who must approve it. Review data retention, integration failures, permissions and time spent on daily tuning. Agree on who will help when an integration fails and who can authorize response actions.
